How can you help?

Become a member (Contact our Secretary) We ask for a £10 annual subscription. Now we are a registered charity, the Charity Commission allows donations to be Gift Aided but requires that we list our "Members" and "Supporters" separately. "Supporters” are those who send donations, often raised through specific events they have organised or who send in personal donations spontaneously, as events dictate. “Members” are the same as “Supporters” but also register with us and pay an annual “members” fee of £10 per person which confers the right to vote at the “AGM” and any “Extraordinary” meetings.

General Information  (Contact our Chairman)

All donations are valuable

There has been no Government help since 2002. The Friends of MRCH now contribute to 80% of the daily running costs of the Home.

Funds sent to the Home by FoMRCH cover particular needs:

Food: the children live on a very meagre diet. Your donations could help add protein, fruit and vegetables.

Clothing: in particular school uniforms. Children are not allowed to attend school without them.

Medical care: even basic medicines are out of their reach. There are 47 HIV positive children. It costs £41 per month per child for drugs. There are 11 children receiving anti retroviral treatment for HIV/Aids at £41 per month  In September 2008 an 8 year old boy was diagnosed with cancer of the brain and urgently needed an operation. We were able to send US$2000 immediately to pay the surgeon and nurses. He later needed a second operation which we were also able to send money for but he later died. Thank you to those people who sent donations to FoMRCH.

Extra staff: There are now 45 staff working at the home, 3 of them covering the Community Childcare programmes in Gweru, Bulawayo and Chinoyi Districts. The extra staffing means that Care staff are able to have some time off.

The most effective way for you to give is via our treasurer who is in constant contact with the home, monitoring current needs.  £2000 are now being sent to the Home every 2 weeks.

Christmas Cards

Each year we sell Christmas cards, chosen especially for FoMRCH. Over the first 6 years card selling alone has raised a total profit of £11,000, all of which has been sent directly to the Home. We now sell around 7,500 cards each year. A big thank you to everyone who helped by buying and/or distributing cards.

New for this year, a completely different style of card. This year we have had the silver (reflective foil) cards made for you - but not just foil, we have used a very effective holographic foil. The images here only give you an idea of what they will look like in real life when the light catches them.

A pack of 10 cards costs £3.50.  We have managed to maintain this low cost for several years! Members will automatically be sent 5 packs of the current designs (styles 9 and 10) unless a different order is requestedWe now also sell mixed packs each containing 2 each of 5 previous years' styles. Please contact our Chairman to place or alter your order.

Any designers who would like to donate a design to be considered in future please contact our Chairman.
